Assuming you are interviewing for the position, the best advice is to ask what a typical work week is like for someone in this role. And if they don’t speak to the work hours, you can get around it by asking up a follow up question like “in a typical month, how many nights and weekends would be expected?” If they say none, then it is safe to assume 40–45 hours would be ok.
Another approach is to ask to speak to other folks in a similar role or folks that would be on your team. And ask them a similar question, but phrase it like, “do you find you regularly need to work late nights and weekends to get your job done?”
So, in summary, ask the question in a way that doesnt suggest you are lazy, but still want to be clear on the expectations.
