Short answer is to spend intentional time on both. Setting a goal for each area of your life can really help too. Otherwise, you are just drifting through life.
I believe the key is to NOT completely unplug from the home life while you are traveling. If you have family and friends back home, make sure you devote some scheduled time to stay connected; easy to do with face-time, skype video, etc.
Also, before you head out of town, find things to do or see while you are away. Make time for that.
Bring some walking or running shoes and go for a short jog around the area to maintain some healthy habits.
Lastly, just because you are out of town doesn’t mean you have to work longer days than normal. Plan a normal work day and stop at a set time.
Hope that helps.
